How the components of SeveNMR are working together has already been outlined in figure
Let us assume that we are at the begin of a new measurement and that we are looking for an echo. We have a *.PC pulse program and we want to measure with it at a certain field, frequency and temperature. First we type the command for setting the temperature on the command line. The command line entry is then sent to the command line interpreter AU.PAS which tells the LTC-100 by the DCU and device drivers to stabilize at this temperature. After the temperature is stabilized we do the same with the frequency. To adjust the field we type the command to enable the current, check, if the memory field value is the same as the actual field and start with the sweep. The command line interpreter is performing all the commands in collaboration with the hardware drivers. The new thing is, that at the end, the command line interpreter writes the new field value back to the dialog box of the main program. Everything adjusted we can start to send the pulses. We tell the command line interpreter to use the file EXAMPLE.PC. It reads the file, sends it to the compiler, gets the Forth code and forwards it to the device driver. As soon as it has arrived the card starts to send pulses. After every trigger pulse the scope board automatically starts a data acquisition. The acquired data are sent directly to the main program, bypassing the command line interpreter, averaged and drawn in the real time chart. Saving the data to the disc involves the usage of the command line interpreter. Parallel to the scope card one often uses the Le Croy transient recorder, but again this is less of an interest in that context.
